Use Project Email Sub-Addressing

You must be a Project Center administrator to add other administrators.

Sub-addressing, also known as plus (+) addressing, is a feature that enables a single email account to have multiple email addresses. These email addresses act as aliases, but unlike aliases, they don't need any configuration. For example, if anyone sends an email message to any of the following three example addresses, it will be delivered to john.smith@gmail.com:

• john.smith+project1@gmail.com
• john.smith+123456789@gmail.com
• john.smith+opportunity@gmail.com

While sub-addressing is part of the internet specification, most email servers do not support sub-addressing. Also, some email servers will not send an email message to a sub-address. Examples of email servers that do support sub-addressing are Gmail and hMailServer. If your corporate email server supports sub-addressing, you can choose to configure Project Center to use sub-addressing instead of an MX record and SMTP relay.

Using sub-addressing

Using this method, there is no need to configure the SMTP relay on Info Exchange. Instead, you will use the name of the project email mailbox (created in the Set Up Project Email Addressing topic) as a prefix for all project email addresses. For example, if the project email mailbox is npc@newforma.com, you can use project email addresses such as:

• npc+project1@gmail.com
• npc+123456789@gmail.com
• npc+opportunity@gmail.com

Because the project email mailbox is used as the prefix for the email address, you should use a short name for the project email mailbox.

In the Add project email address prefixes and domains section of the Set Up Project Email Addressing topic, you will be required to specify the name of the project email mailbox as the prefix and make it required.
