Newforma Project Email Diagnostics dialog box
Use this Project Center utility to diagnose any problems with the Project Center Add-in for Microsoft Outlook. When this utility is opened, the diagnostic tests are executed automatically and the first test result is displayed.
Diagnostics tab
This tab displays the test results. Use the Next and Back buttons to review each test result.
Test
The name of the test that was run.
Result
This field shows the diagnostic test results and explains the problem.
Action
This field shows what action to take to solve the problem.
Copy Report to Clipboard
Click to copy the log to the Windows clipboard.
Email Report and Logs
Click to open the log in an email message to send to other users.
Action
In some cases, the diagnostic tool can correct the problem for you. If this is possible, the Action button will be will enabled. Click to perform the action listed in the Action field.
Back/Next
Click to view the next (or previous) diagnostic test result.
Tools tab
Rename Outlook Files
Click any of the five buttons (Normal.dot, Outcmd.dat, Extend.dat, FrmCache.dat, or .OST) to rename the corresponding files so that Microsoft Outlook automatically recreates them when you shut it down and restart it.
1 The .OST and .OAB files are deleted, not renamed.
Information
System Information
Click to open Microsoft's System Information utility.
Message Info
Click to create and display a text file containing debugging information about the message. This file is created next to the msg/eml file. It contains the body of the message, and it may include information about who filed the message. If this command is run on several message files, you can compare the resulting text files to help diagnose problems.
Compare Messages
Click to compare the four fields Project Center uses to determine if messages are duplicates and report on any differences. The four fields are the sender’s SMTP address, the sent time, the subject, and the body. If the bodies are different and you have the open source tool WinMerge installed, you may compare them in WinMerge to look for differences.
Outlook Data Repair
Scan OST
Click to run scanost.exe (the OST Integrity Check utility).
Scan PST
Click to run scanpst.exe (the Microsoft Inbox Repair Tool).
Microsoft Update
Click to open the Windows Updates web page.
VSTO
Set Environment Vars
Visual Studio Tools for Office can write all errors that occur during startup to a log file or display each error in a message box. By default, these options are turned off. You can turn the options on by adding and setting environment variables. Click to set these two environment variables.
Add-In Registry Keys
Click to execute the code that defines the registry keys necessary for Outlook to recognize the Project Center Add-in for Microsoft Outlook. This code runs the first time Project Center starts after an installation. You could use it to repair registry keys or to change their values if Microsoft Office has been upgraded. This command replaces some .reg files that were previously distributed with Project Center.

For Microsoft Outlook 2003 users, click to add security entries to enable the Outlook 2003 Add-in to run in Outlook.
VSTO Power Tools
Click to open the Microsoft Visual Studio Tools for the Office System Power Tools web page. The Microsoft VSTO_PT.exe tool is an application designed to help diagnose potential client-side issues when you deploy a VSTO solution. The tool scans the client computer for the prerequisites required to run a VSTO solution and reports the state of the prerequisites in an HTML report.

Registry Editor
Click to run regedit.
Clipbook Viewer
Click to open the Clipbook Viewer.
1 The Clipbook Viewer is not available in Windows Vista.
HomeMTA
Click to create and display a text file with a list of users in Active Directory along with their HomeMTA values. When upgrading to Microsoft Exchange 2010, the HomeMTA field is sometimes set to a bad value. This can prevent Automated File Items from working for these users (this can also affect the email account of the Newforma Service Account). You can use this text file to quickly determine if these HomeMTA values might be the source of Automated File Items issues.
